Dental implants can be used to replace missing teeth or ailing teeth that need to be extracted. They are sugically implanted into the jawbone and function like the root of your missing tooth.

An initial consultation with one of our Periodontists will be required. A detailed examination will be carried out including a 3D digital scan to determine if implants are the best option for you. At this visit a detailed medical history and dental examination will be carried out. This is to assess you overall health of your gums, bite adn to assthe area where the implant/implants may be placed.
The procedure to place a dental implant is carried out in the dental chair under local anaesthetic. The implant will either be covered in gum or a small metal cap placed on top. This cap may be visible in the mouth during the healing period. You will be seen by a hygienist two weeks after the procedure for suture removal and healing.
Dental implants can take up to three months to heal. After an appropriate healing time determine by your Periodontist, you then have an appointment with them to check the implant is completely healed and ready to be restored by your referring dentist or a specialist Prosthodontist.
Caring for You Dental Implant
As with your natural teeth, dental implants require good oral home care and regular professional cleaning. It is important to understand gum disease can happen around dental implants. You will be shown how to clean around your dental implant using a brush and floss.
